Looking at one-ways returning from Costa Rica.....

LIR to MIA is about $700 booked as such. Interestingly, Skipplagged found a routing (LIR-MIA-LGA-PHL-YOW) for almost $500 less.

Easy question here, but we haven't made domestic connectors after an international flight in a long time so I can't remember. Skipplagged says "no checked bag"....but aren't we picking up our checked bags, clearing customs, and then re-checking them to our final destination (YOW, wink wink)?? Instead, I would plan to pick up our checked bags, clear customs, miss the rest of our flights and take an Uber right on home.

But maybe I'm missing something and it's not going to be that simple? Any other words of warning for a hidden city routing? Thanks in advance...

First word of warning would be to not do this very often :)

But, if it's a one-off situation where you can save a significant amount of money... then you shouldn't have an issue.

You are correct, you do have to claim your luggage when arriving in the US. So, I'd agree - you would be okay!
