Myself and 4 others travel quite a bit for company business. We have been issued AMEX Corporate cards to pay for our expenses. However, we don't get to accrue any points, other than what we get for actual flights/hotel stays. The company uses the points and/or rebates it earns to purchase gift cards at the end of the year for Christmas gifts/bonuses/prizes.

We are mostly US, weekly domestic travelers, with about 2 international trips per year, booking coach, and upgrading to domestic comfort or domestic 1st class as an airline status award only. International destinations are usually London & Paris, although we made business trips to S. Korea and Taiwan as well. It sure would be nice to fly business or 1st on those international trips, but will need to do so with miles.

Is there a recommended methodology where the travelers can accrue some benefit for accumulating extra miles to be used for upgrades while allowing the company to maintain the benefits it desires as well?

Unfortunately, there aren't many options if you are forced to use the corporate AMEX. You could look at building up airline points by dining at restaurants that participate in the RewardsNetwork program when you travel.
