Help! Norwegian cancelled flights to/from Seattle and we're already ticketed...

    Hello!

We have round-trip tickets on Norwegian between SEA and LGW over New Year's, but Norwegian just cancelled all of their Seattle flights after sometime in October. Not sure if they're dropping Seattle permanently, or just making the route seasonal.

In any event, they sent us an email saying our airport has changed (!!), and we're now supposed to fly round-trip from LAX. No mention of getting us to/from LAX, just that's our new departure airport. Of course, they're offering a full refund (we bought Premium Flex anyway, so who cares about that) but that's the only option.

Before I call, I wanted to ask this wonderful group what rights we have. Should they put us on other non-stop flights from SEA to London (Virgin Atlantic or British Airways)? Should they have to cover our round trip tickets between Seattle and LAX? If we do cancel, are they on the hook for non-refundable expenses we've already made in London?

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks so much,
    Todd

I believe the airline has to find a reasonable solution to get you from SEA to LGW, though considering they dont have partner's that'll be tough.

I think it's reasonable for them to pay for the SEA-LAX ticket though I'd probably start with trying to get them to rebook you on BA or VS in premium economy on the direct flight.

Also check with the card you purchased with and see if they'll cover any costs.

@David W @Lucky @Tiffany I waited on hold to talk to Norwegian for over an hour. They're taking a very hard line -- because the schedule change is so far in advance, they will only change the dates, allow us to travel to/from LAX (instead of SEA), or refund the ticket. Absolutely no chance of getting us to/from LAX or putting us on another carrier out of Seattle. And when I asked to speak to a supervisor, she insisted "our supervisors do not talk to customers". Is there really no recourse for this?

I would call again, being calm and friendly, and try and find a more amenable agent. Others are reporting that Norwegian has booked them on AS flights to connect with the new Norwegian ones.

Thanks, everyone. For a quick trip to London, we really don't want to have to connect through LAX, so even if I could get them to offer that, I don't think we'd take it. Part of the attraction of this quick New Year's trip was a simple non-stop flight.

So, I took the refund and booked r/t Upper Class on Virgin Atlantic with SkyMiles for a lot less cash out of pocket than the Norwegian tickets, and even though we burned 150K SkyMiles each, we'll get to fly non-stop and in Upper Class instead of Premium Economy. (I know it's not comparing apples to apples, but still...)

As always, thank you all for your help and advice. It's comforting to know that Norwegian really doesn't have as bad of an attitude as a whole as the agent I got did.

Oh -- I'd have considered HUACA, but not with the hour-plus wait to get the agent in the first place. Oy! :)
