    Luck/Tiffani/All,
Looking for some advice on reasonable compensation my wife and I should receive due to a 5 hr delay in our origination flight to Chicago yesterday where we were supposed to connect to London. This was a mechanical delay and we are flying United on award redemption in business. We had a 4.5 hr layover built in so missed our flight by .5 hr.
United has rebooked us for today at 4pm into London which will obviously get us to London a day later into our vacation. We also were not able to cancel our London hotel reservation in time due to the time difference and not knowing we would miss our connection until last minute. Also our London hotel is a reward booking so I don't have a per night price I can prove I paid.
So far, United has issued us a stay at Holiday Inn half hr from the airport and so meal voucher tickets we couldn't use because we got in so late last night.
Is there anyway EU 261 applies and this can be easy or am I looking at an uphill battle for compensation?
    Thanks,
    Drew

EU 261 only applies when traveling on a European airlines, or originating from Europe, unfortunately. So, I don’t think that would apply.

What type of credit card did you use to pay the taxes and fees on your reward booking? I believe the Chase Sapphire family of cards only require you to pay for a portion of your tickets with the card in order to receive the travel insurance benefits. That may be your easiest route.

Thanks, but I am running into the issue of having no distinct value to place on the delay. As I said hotel was an award booking, which had value but is up to interpretation. Also a day of sight seeing in London is gone, what value can I place on that?
I did pay with Reserve, but insurance is going to reimburse not make up for.

If the hotel was an award booking, you could just base the value on how many points you had to redeem - Lucky's valuations are here and are pretty much in line with what the online community (https://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/value-miles-points/)

I think placing a value on the day of sightseeing would be very difficult, and also very difficult to get United to compensate you for that. At the end of the day, they transported you to your original destination on a direct routing, even though it was one day later than expected.
