Cancelling Amex Hilton within one year of sign up?

    Hi Lucky,

Back in October I signed up for the Hilton Amex Ascend Card (was called something else back then I believe, but it had a 100,000 point bonus w/ $95 annual fee). I recently used my balance of 150,000 hilton points for rooms for a relative's graduation. Now my balance is near zero, and without the huge sign up bonus, this card seems to have very little use, considering that I could obtain gold status at Hilton and other hotel groups by spending a bit more on an annual fee with Amex Platinum or others.

My question is, Is there any consequence to cancelling this card (credit score wise, Applying for other Amex cards, etc.?) I feel like I should at least hold onto the card until September, cancel before the annual fee, and switch over to a higher level Chase or Amex Card. Just wanted to ask before going through with the switches.
